Frequently Asked Questions about our Magic Pictures:
  • What exactly is a Magic Picture?

  • A Magic Picture is a picture that magically changes from one photo to another by simply looking at it from a different direction. For instance, when you look directly at a Magic Picture you will see one picture, but if you look slightly to the left or the right the image amazingly transitions to a completely different photo.

  • Is a Magic Picture the same thing as a hologram?

  • A Magic Picture is technically called a lenticular image. It works in much the same way as a hologram but a Magic Picture looks much clearer due to a different light refracting process. The end result however is often referred to as a holographic effect.

  • Will any photograph work for a Magic Picture?

  • Yes, any photos will work. You will need a total of two. They can be snapshots, portraits, digital images, even your Facebook and cell phone pictures will work. For best quality, avoid postal mailing computer "printouts" (digital pictures printed on your home computer printer). We would prefer you email, upload or postal mail a CD-rom of the digital version from your computer instead of printing it out.

  • What sizes do my pictures need to be?

  • Both of your two photos can be of any size, we will resize both for you in order for them to match the size of the Magic Picture that you ordered. Just remember, the larger, or higher the resolution of photo you provide, the better the end quality will be. If you can see the whites of the subjects eyes in the original picture, that usually indicates that the picture will resize up to an 8x10 with no problems. If the quality of the enlargement is poor, we will contact you and ask if it is possible for you to provide a better version.

  • What sizes of Magic Pictures do you make?

  • We only offer two sizes of Magic Pictures. 8" x 10" and 5" x 7". Your photos however can be any size, we will resize both pictures to either the 8x10 or 5x7.

  • What if my two pictures don't match shape wise?

  • That is usually not a problem. If one picture is "portrait" oriented, meaning it is taller than it is wider, and your other picture is "landscape" oriented, meaning it is wider than it is taller, we will need to make them both the same. That is achieved by cropping one of the pictures by using only a portion of one picture. Typically the landscape photo has some area of picture on the sides that can be eliminated, essentially leaving the image with just the center portion and as a result becoming a portrait oriented image. The same can be true for the opposite, and eliminate the top and/or bottom from the portrait thus making it landscape.

  • Can you crop the pictures that I send?

  • Yes. Simply choose the "Email Photos" option when placing your order. You can then email the photos to us with a description in your message of how you would like us to crop the photo.

  • Can I have more than one person in a picture?

  • Yes, you can have as many people in the picture as you would like. It really does not matter what or who the pictures are of. They do not even have to be of people. They can be people, pets, places, things. Any two photos really!

  • My picture is old and worn. Can I still use it?

  • Yes, you can use an old and worn photo but keep in mind that the finished product will only be as good as the images that you provided us. We can do simple corrections to your photos, but for really worn photos you may want to email us a copy of the picture first. We will look at it and let you know if we can help improve it.

  • Can my pictures be both black & white and color?

  • Yes. In fact, having a picture change from a color image to an older black & white photo makes a really nice effect. Many older wedding photos are in black and white. Consider choosing one that is not completely "white washed", meaning there is considerably more white than than there is grey or black. Using a whitewashed picture may cause a light shadow of the second picture show through.

  • I can see a slight shadow of the other picture. Is that normal?

  • Yes, sometimes. A Magic Picture is an optical illusion, so that must be kept in mind. Occasionally there are certain combinations of pictures that leave a slight shadow of one image in the other. Typically this occurs when one of the images is "white washed", meaning there is considerably more white than than there is of other colors. If we detect that this side effect will negatively effect the quality of the finished picture, we may contact you to ask if you can provide an alternative image.

  • Can you remove or add people to my photos?

  • Yes. Simply choose the "Email Photos" option when placing your order. You can then email the photos to us with a description in your message of who you would like removed from the photo, or also include one of the person you would like to add.

  • How can I send you the two photos?

  • There are several ways you can provide your two photos to us. The simplest way is to upload them into our order form. You can also use that form to import your pictures from Facebook. We also provide an option on the form to email the pictures to us. If you would prefer mailing them using the postal service, there is an option for that as well. When emailing or postal mailing your photos, please include your name and contact information.

  • If I mail the photos to you will I get them back?

  • Yes, absolutely. We do not keep them or alter them in any way. We will return both of your original photos along with the finished Magic Picture.

  • How long does a Magic Picture last?
